SIX NEW RELEASES LAUNCH AUTUMN SEASON

Music from the 12th century to the 21st can be heard in 6 new September releases.

The first two feature music by Brahms: the Horn Trio op 40, Violin Sonata op 78 and 7 Fantasien op 116 are performed by Teunis van der Zwart, Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov. "Though the Horn Trio is almost invariably heard these days with a valve horn, Brahms composed the work specifically for the older, valveless instrument, and its darker, smokier sound certainly melds perfectly with the mellow Bösendorfer and the soft-grained string tone." The Guardian

The companion disc, of the Complete String Quartets/Piano Quintet op 34, played by the Cuarteto Casals has the Yorkshire Post recommending: "Buy this and you will never need another recording of the Brahms string quartets."

Already praised for her interpretations of composers as diverse as Scarlatti, Monteverdi, Gluck, Dvorak, Mozart, Brahms and Berlioz, Bernarda Fink, accompanied by Gerold Huber, now turns her attention to Schubert and some of his best-loved Lieder including An die Musik, Gretchen am Spinnrade, An Silvia, Die junge Nonne and Du bist die Ruh.

In the wake of Scattered Rhymes, released to instant acclaim in May this year, comes a new release of works by the young British composer, Tarik O'Regan, Threshold of Night, featuring the Texan choir, Conspirare. To find out all about these new compositions, visit Threshold of Night.

Turn back the clock to the 17th and 16th centuries to find 'O felice morire', arias and madrigals by Caccini, d'India, Landi, Monteverdi and Marini, to name only a few, introduced by none other than Anthony Rooley.

And so to the 12th century, where the Dufay Collective directed by William Lyons perform The Play of Daniel, or Ludus Danielis, a medieval liturgical drama taking in everything from the Writing on the Wall to Daniel in the lion's den.
